FIR NW is a student-operated ad agency in Portland State University's School of Business. Led by creative director, university instructor, and mentor, Doug Lowell, the agency uses the perfect blend of strategy and creative to solve business problems for local brands.

no strangers to constraints, most FIRchachos have jobs, and all go to school full time. We work with clients who usually have no budget and have roughly ten weeks to produce killer work from start to finish. But, it gets done. And it gets done well. And I think that that’s in large part due to us being a group of creative, open-minded, hungry personalities working together every day to empower each other and make the best (and coolest) work possible.

I joined FIR as a junior strategist in Spring 2018, and was appointed to Director of Strategy in August, overseeing the planning, research, and briefs of all eight agency accounts, spanning across multiple projects, and conducting brand platform workshops.

awareness + recruitment campaigns 2018

FIR’s long-term success depends on increasing the number of students that want to participate in the program. That’s where we come in. Each term, our self-promotion team concepts an out-of-the-box, in-your-face campaign to promote awareness of FIR NW, as well as to recruit new students and broadcast application deadlines. This year’s campaigns were focused on showing FIR’s personality.

fir nw end of year event + panel 2018

every year, FIR NW hosts an end of year event and discussion panel featuring thought leaders in the industry to highlight the agencies’ work, as well as facilitate a meaningful discussion among students and ad professionals in the Portland area and beyond. the event featured a panel made up of minds from Wieden+Kennedy, Amusement Park, and Red & Co., with over 100 people in attendance.
